Four of the seven POS systems we cover are listed on Xero's NZ App Store: Lightspeed, Shopify POS, Hike and Bustle. Loyverse connects through a free third-party app. Lazygrid and Tabin say they integrate with Xero, but we couldn't find a Xero App Store NZ listing for either.
For most NZ businesses, the right pick is a system with a listed Xero app and integrated NZ EFTPOS, so sales and card takings both flow through without re-keying. This page shows which systems do both. It's our own desk research from Xero's App Store and vendor pages, checked on 5 October 2026.
Does Xero have its own POS?
No. Xero is accounting software. It doesn't make a point-of-sale app, and we couldn't find a POS product page on Xero's NZ site. What it does have:
- A "Point of sale" category in its App Store, with many POS apps from other companies. The NZ page is titled "POS Systems that Integrate with Xero".
- Tap to Pay on Xero, which lets you "accept in-person payments, powered by Stripe, straight from the Xero Accounting app". That's for getting invoices paid on the spot, not for running a counter.
So "Xero POS" in practice means a POS from someone else that sends its sales into Xero.
POS systems with a Xero integration
Here's where each of our seven stands. The middle column is what our site lists for each product; the right column is what we found on Xero's NZ App Store.
| System | Xero (our listing) | Xero App Store NZ listing? |
|---|---|---|
| Lightspeed | Yes | Yes: Retail X-Series and Kounta |
| Shopify POS | Yes | Yes, built by Xero |
| Hike | Add-on, Plus and up | Yes |
| Bustle | Yes | Yes |
| Loyverse | Partial | No: third-party app |
| Lazygrid | Lazygrid says yes | We couldn't find one |
| Tabin | Tabin says yes | We couldn't find one |
Listed on Xero's NZ App Store
Lightspeed has two NZ listings. Lightspeed Retail POS (X-Series, formerly Vend) has been listed since May 2011, and Lightspeed Kounta POS, the hospitality product, since April 2015. We couldn't find a NZ listing for Lightspeed's K-Series restaurant product, so check which Lightspeed product you're being sold. Read our Lightspeed review.
Shopify POS connects through an integration built by Xero itself, and Xero says it's "free on all Xero plans". It syncs sales from both your Shopify online store and Shopify POS. Read our Shopify POS review.
Hike has its own listing, which says the integration "is available for FREE to all Hike & Xero users". But Hike's NZ pricing table shows accounting integrations (Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks Online) as not included on the Essential plan and as an add-on on Plus and Enterprise. Ask Hike which applies to your plan before you sign. Read our Hike review.
Bustle is listed by Bustle, and has been since March 2017. It's built for hospitality. Read our Bustle review.
Connected through a third-party app
Loyverse doesn't build its own Xero link. Xero by Amaka, an app listed as free in Loyverse's marketplace, sends a summary of the previous day's sales into Xero as an invoice. That's enough for many small shops; it's not per-sale detail. Read our Loyverse review.
Vendor says it integrates; no App Store listing found
Lazygrid says on its blog that its Xero integration is "Direct & Certified" and "Included in All Plans". Its pricing page doesn't mention Xero, and we couldn't find a Lazygrid listing on Xero's NZ App Store. Read our Lazygrid review.
Tabin says it "connects with … Xero for accounting". We couldn't find a Tabin listing on Xero's NZ App Store either. Read our Tabin review.
"We couldn't find" isn't proof there's no connection: Xero's App Store search runs in the browser, so we checked the listing addresses directly. A listing does let you read other users' reviews before you commit, so ask both vendors to show you exactly what their integration sends to Xero.
What actually syncs
"Integrates with Xero" can mean very different things. The listings describe it like this:
| System | What the listing says it sends to Xero |
|---|---|
| Lightspeed X-Series | End-of-day register closures: daily sales totals, payment type totals and invoices; cost of goods sold; account sales as receivable invoices |
| Lightspeed Kounta | Daily reconciliation, invoices, customer and supplier details |
| Shopify | Your choice of a daily summary or separate transactions per sale; payouts, fees and taxes |
| Hike | Sales, purchases, customers, supplier details and payments; one batched invoice when you close the register, or individual sales invoices |
| Bustle | Daily sales summaries of cash, credit card and EFTPOS takings that reconcile against Xero's bank feeds |
| Loyverse (via Amaka) | A summary invoice of the previous day's sales and payments |
Two things to decide with your accountant:
- Daily summary or every sale? A daily summary keeps Xero tidy; Shopify's listing suggests it for high-volume stores. Per-sale detail helps if you want customer and line-item data in Xero.
- Account customers. If trade customers pay on account, check the POS can raise a Xero invoice for them. Lightspeed X-Series and Hike both mention account sales. For Shopify POS, a separate app, OrderMate, pushes on-account POS orders to Xero as invoices; it's billed in US dollars.
Picking a Xero POS that also does NZ EFTPOS
A Xero link only fixes half the job. If your EFTPOS terminal isn't integrated, staff still re-key every card sale and you still reconcile by hand.
| System | Xero | Integrated NZ EFTPOS |
|---|---|---|
| Lightspeed | Yes | Windcave, Shift4 (formerly Smartpay), Eftpos NZ (Verifone) |
| Shopify POS | Yes | No built-in NZ EFTPOS integration (available via the paid OrderMate app) |
| Hike | Add-on, Plus and up | HikePay, Eftpos NZ (Verifone), Windcave |
| Bustle | Yes | Eftpos NZ (Verifone), Windcave, Shift4 (formerly Smartpay) |
| Loyverse | Partial | Shift4 (formerly Smartpay), iOS only |
| Lazygrid | Lazygrid says yes | Windcave, Eftpos NZ (Verifone), Shift4 (formerly Smartpay) |
| Tabin | Tabin says yes | Eftpos NZ (Verifone), Windcave, Shift4 (formerly Smartpay) |
Check your terminal with our EFTPOS checker, and see our guides to Windcave-integrated POS, Shift4 (formerly Smartpay) integrated POS and Shopify POS with EFTPOS in NZ.
Watch-outs
- Hike's Xero cost. The Xero listing says free; Hike's own pricing table says not on Essential and an add-on on higher plans. Get it in writing.
- Lightspeed product names. In NZ, Xero lists Lightspeed's X-Series and Kounta apps. If you're offered a different Lightspeed restaurant product, ask how it connects to Xero in NZ.
- Square. You may read that Square integrates with Xero. Whatever the case overseas, Square doesn't process card payments in New Zealand, so it isn't an option here.
- Ratings move. Xero's listings show user ratings and reviews. They're worth reading, but they're Xero's users' opinions, not ours.
