How we make money

Affiliate disclosure

POS System Guide is free to use. To keep it that way, we may earn money when you click some links and sign up. Here is exactly how that works.

Last updated: 5 October 2026

The short version

  • Some links to POS providers are affiliate or partner links.
  • If you click one and sign up or buy, the provider may pay us a commission.
  • It costs you nothing extra. You pay the same price as going direct.
  • Commissions never decide our ratings, rankings or recommendations.

Who we may earn from

We have applied to, or may join, partner programmes run by:

  • POS software providers, such as Shopify and Lightspeed;
  • other businesses whose products we cover, such as POS hardware sellers;
  • affiliate networks that run programmes on behalf of these companies.

Some applications are still being reviewed, so not every provider link earns us anything. Whether or not a link earns us money, we treat it the same way.

Our ratings are not for sale

Providers cannot pay for a better rating, a higher ranking or a kinder review. Affiliate relationships never change the order of our lists or what we say about a product. We include and recommend products we earn nothing from, and we point out the downsides of products we do earn from.

Our research method explains how ratings are formed.

How we label links and advertising

  • The footer of every page says that some links are affiliate links, and we repeat it on our main comparison pages.
  • Links to providers are marked with rel="sponsored" in the page code, so search engines know they may be commercial.
  • We do not sell sponsored placements today. If we ever do, they will be clearly labelled “Sponsored” where they appear, and kept separate from our ratings.

Coming later: the “Get matched” form

We plan to add an optional form that passes business enquiries, with your consent, to New Zealand POS resellers and EFTPOS providers. Those providers may pay us a referral fee. When the form launches, it will say so clearly on the form itself, and our privacy policy will be updated first.

The rules we follow

We aim to meet the advertising and disclosure rules in the countries our readers come from:

  • New Zealand: the Fair Trading Act 1986, which the Commerce Commission enforces, and the Advertising Standards Authority codes, which say advertising must be obviously identifiable as advertising.
  • Australia: the Australian Consumer Law, which prohibits misleading or deceptive conduct.
  • United States: the Federal Trade Commission’s Endorsement Guides, which require clear disclosure of material connections.
