We collect as little as we can. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking cookies on this site. This page explains the little we do handle, and your rights.

Who we are
POS System Guide is an independent website comparing point-of-sale (POS) systems and hardware. We are based in Christchurch, New Zealand, and the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 applies to how we handle personal information.
Questions about privacy? Email hello@possystemguide.com.
What we collect
When you visit the site
Like any website, our hosting provider receives technical information each time your browser asks for a page. This includes your IP address, the page address you requested (including anything after the “?” in it), the date and time, your browser type, and the page you came from. This is kept in short-term request logs.
When you use our free tools
The EFTPOS checker and the true cost calculator run in your browser. Your answers are kept only in the page address (the URL), so you can bookmark or share a result. We do not save them anywhere. Because they are part of the URL, they will appear in your browser history and in the request logs described above. Please do not type personal details into the tools.
When you email us
If you email us, we receive your email address, name (if you include it) and whatever you write. We use it only to reply to you.
What we do not collect
We do not run accounts, newsletters, comment forms, analytics or advertising. We do not knowingly collect sensitive information, such as health or financial details.
Why we use it
- To deliver the website to you and keep it working.
- To keep the site secure and protect it from abuse, such as attacks or harmful scraping.
- To fix errors and understand problems with the site.
- To reply to messages you send us.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not build profiles of visitors.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the services that run the site:
- Cloudflare hosts the site and processes every request, including your IP address and request logs, on its global network. Cloudflare’s privacy policy
- Cloudflare Email Routing receives messages you send to hello@possystemguide.com and forwards them to our inbox, which is hosted by Yahoo. Yahoo’s privacy policy
We do not sell personal information. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the site and its users from harm or unlawful activity.
Storage and overseas disclosure
Cloudflare and Yahoo are based in the United States and process data in many countries. That means some information about your visit is handled outside New Zealand. These providers publish their own privacy commitments and data processing terms, and we have chosen them because they are large, established services with strong security practices. Where information about you goes overseas, we take reasonable steps under Information Privacy Principle 12 of the Privacy Act to make sure it is protected in a way that, overall, gives comparable safeguards to those in New Zealand.
How long we keep it
- Request logs are kept by Cloudflare for a short period (days, not months) and then deleted automatically.
- Emails are kept only as long as we need them to deal with your message, then deleted.
- Tool answers are never stored by us. They exist only in the URL in your browser.
Keeping it safe
The whole site is served over HTTPS. We do not keep a database of visitor information, which is the simplest way to keep it safe. Access to our hosting and email accounts is limited to the site operator.
Cookies
We do not set any cookies of our own today, and we do not use tracking or advertising cookies. Our hosting provider may set a strictly necessary security cookie in some cases, for example to tell real visitors apart from bots.
When you click a link to a POS provider, you leave our site. That provider, or an affiliate network it uses, may set its own cookies on its website so it can tell that you came from us. Those cookies are controlled by them, under their privacy policies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
Your rights
Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, you can:
- ask whether we hold personal information about you, and ask to see it;
- ask us to correct information you think is wrong.
Email hello@possystemguide.com to make a request. We will reply as soon as we reasonably can, and within 20 working days. We may need to check who you are first. There is no charge.
If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can try to put it right. You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz).
Visitors from Australia
We aim to handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). You can ask to access or correct your information in the same way as above. If you have a concern, contact us first. You can find more about your privacy rights at the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
Visitors from the United States
Some US state laws, such as the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA, give residents rights over their personal information. In the last 12 months, the only categories of personal information collected through this site were:
- identifiers, such as IP address, and email address if you email us;
- internet activity, such as pages requested and browser type, in request logs;
- anything you choose to include in an email to us.
We collect these for the purposes listed above. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not collect sensitive personal information. You can ask to know, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you by emailing hello@possystemguide.com, and we will not treat you differently for asking.
Visitors from the UK and European Union
If the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies to you, our lawful basis for handling request logs and security information is our legitimate interest in running a safe, working website. Our lawful basis for replying to emails is our legitimate interest in answering you. Where we ever rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our use of your personal information, and to data portability. Email hello@possystemguide.com to use these rights. You can also complain to your local data protection authority, such as the Information Commissioner’s Office in the UK.
Coming later: the “Get matched” form
We plan to add an optional form that lets businesses ask to be put in touch with New Zealand POS resellers or EFTPOS providers. It is not live yet. When it is, we will only pass your details to a provider with your explicit consent, and we will update this policy before the form goes live, to explain exactly what is collected and who receives it.
Children
This site is for businesses. It is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page when the way we handle information changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. If we make a significant change, such as launching the “Get matched” form, we will make it clear on the site.
